Fear

Since two of my blog-enabled friends have written about fear (here and here) and I recently posted about lyrics, I thought I'd add to the discussion with some lyrics from Cirque Du Soleil.  I interpret the song "Let Me Fall" to not be about literal falling/failing, it's about having the guts to take the leap.  It's about breaking free of whatever or whomever is holding you back from what you know are capable of and having the faith that you will survive.  When I first saw the performance (from the show Quidam, 1996) over a decade ago, I was so touched by the lyrics.  Then to have Josh Groban sing the song... well that just sealed the deal.

Let me fall
Let me climb
There’s a moment when fear
And dreams must collide

Someone I am
Is waiting for courage
The one I want
The one I will become
Will catch me

So let me fall
If I must fall
I won’t heed your warnings
I won’t hear them
Let me fall
If I fall
Though the phoenix may
Or may not rise
I will dance so freely
Holding on to no one
You can hold me only
If you too will fall
Away from all these
Useless fears and chains
Someone I am
Is waiting for my courage
The one I want
The one I will become
Will catch me
So let me fall
If I must fall
I won’t heed your warnings
I won’t hear
Let me fall
If I fall
There’s no reason
To miss this one chance
This perfect moment
Just let me fall
